Lately, The Gluttones have been making headlines with their music and live performances. They are also embarking on their maiden tour of the Northeast - ‘Dance through the night tour.’ Powered by Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA), Rockarolla and N.E.R.D. Management, the Dimapur based band, The Gluttones will be performing at Dimapur, Guwahati, Imphal, Diphu, Shillong and more venues.

The Gluttones is an Electro Synth-pop band from Dimapur, Nagaland. The quartet consists of Meyisanen Lemtur on the vocals, Akinto Ayemi on the guitars, Mulong Longkumer (founding member) on the bass and Katovi Yepthomi (founding member) on the drums.

Talking to The Morung Express about their music and the journey, The Gluttones shared that the band’s name is a combination of “Gluton” and musical “Tones” which signifies “never ending hunger and pursuit of new musical sounds.”

The band started in 2015 as a participant for the Hornbill National Rock contest. Since its formation, the band underwent three line-up changes. The current line-up has two founding members (drummer and bassist) and two new members (vocal and guitar). Among others Zholozu Thong (vocalist), Nesavo (guitarist) and Binto Semy (keyboardist) were the founding members.

The band describes their music as “Electronic, Synth based pop music for young people to listen to, main stream music to be precise.”

They describe their creative process as “fun and exciting.” Members of the band said, “Usually the guitarist brings the material to work with after which the band as a group constructs the song bits by bits. It usually takes us 3-5 days to complete a whole song.” With no artist or band in particular,” The Gluttones take inspirations from “any good music.”

Like many other artists in the same field, The Gluttones also root their core values and principles “to be disciplined in our craft and self- belief.”

Sharing about having a mentor and on how they play their role in the band, the members said, “Yes, we have Rev Robert Kikon as our mentor. He is a force that drives us to work hard and diligently. He helps the band in all ways possible.”

One of the biggest challenges they face as a band, The Gluttones says is ‘Self-doubts and getting stuck with stereotypes.’ They shared that ‘the band’s name has also been a factor as many Christians condemn it to be contradictory to our beliefs whereas the name has a different meaning to it.’ “…we have been working hard and slowly the results are starting to show off,” the band added.

As a band The Gluttones dreams of going ‘beyond what our people think is impossible.’ Their ultimate musical dream is “to break stereotypes of Nagas not being at the top with the rest of the world.”

Sharing their impression of the music scene in Nagaland, the band feels that it is still in its infancy stage at best but ‘it is growing at an okay rate.’ “There is hope for the future,” The Gluttones avowed.

As for Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA) who is also one of their tour sponsors, the band said, “We have nothing but gratitude for them. They have been doing a great job.” However, “If there is one criticism then we hope more focus is given on discovering new talents and providing opportunities to full time musicians which of course is something they are already doing in their own way,” they added.

Given a choice to change anything about the music industry in Nagaland, the band says it would be to support one another “as there is not much support from our own people.” As an advice for someone wanting to follow in their footsteps, The Gluttones says, “Believe in yourself, work and study your craft.”

In the end note, The Gluttones announced that the band will be “coming up with a music video and an Ep soon.”
