World Blood Donor Day was observed at Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH) Conference Hall, under the global theme ‘donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives’ on June 14.

At a brief formal programme, Bendangtemsu Ozukum and Nukshitula spoke on ‘Walk the Talk’ where they shared their experience as blood donors. Bendangtemsu encouraged everyone to become agents of blood donation by trying to channelize and connect people who are in need of blood with people willing to donate.

“We should educate and motivate people to donate blood and try to eliminate the various misconceptions associated with blood donation,” Nukshitula said. She added that ‘by donating blood we are not only saving a person’s life but also saving a family from going through the process of grief.’

Dr Limatula, MS, IMDH spoke on the significance of the day and elaborated on why the World Blood Donation Day was observed. She stated that the day was observed to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion, as per the World Health Organization (WHO). The day also highlights the critical contribution that voluntary and unpaid blood donors make to the health systems to save lives, she added.

The MS appreciated the voluntary unpaid donors and encouraged everyone to educate the masses on the noble cause of blood donation and to remove all misconceptions associated with it.

The programme was chaired by Molu Jamir and vote of thanks was proposed by Makshi Jamir, DPO, NSACS. The programme was followed by voluntary blood donation camp.
