Zeliangrong Baudi rejects NSCN/GPRN’s ‘upgrade’ move

Dimapur, October 21 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Baudi of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland has taken serious note of what was stated to be “proposed reorganization/upgradation” of Zeliangrong region by the NSCN/GPRN. The ‘baudi’ has made clear its opposition to any attempts by the outfit to disintegrate the land and its people and said to not tolerate the move.

A statement denouncing the so-stated “proposed reorganization/upgradation” of the Zeliangrong land, was received here from the organization’s leadership today. The Zeliangrong organization has appreciated the establishment of “Zeliangrong region under one administrative unit” but not the attempt to disintegrate the land.

“…the baudi once again affirmed its stand to oppose any move/attempt to disintegrate its land and its people. As divide and rule policy will not serve any purpose in the process of Naga reconciliation and its struggle for self determination,” the organization said.

According to the statement, the vast tract of territory “the rationale of the proposed reorganization/upgradation of the present Zeliangrong region is acceptable to all concerned.” But, the Zeliangrong Baudi said “reorganization or upgradation of our region should not be at the cost of creating schism/division within Zeliangrong people. Our people living in Assam, Manipur and Nagaland will not, in any case, tolerate any outfit to create division.”

Any new region spun off from the existing Zeliangrong region, the statement said, should be “an exclusive administrative unit of particular Zeliangrong cognate group such as the Rongmeis or the Liangmais or the Zemeis.”

“Therefore no form of exclusive structure of any new region by prefixing any name of Zeliangrong cognate groups to it be adopted. Consequences of such form of structure will be far-reaching on our unity. Even though the region is named after local topographic name such as Asaloo, Zeilad and Makuilongdi, no shred of exclusive principle such as numerical majority of any cognate group in the proposed region be applied in the organizing of the region.”

The organization added that any such move should be “undertaken through prior consent of the people” but any action “without prior information to the people would rather be disastrous in its effort to benefit the people.”
