ICAR Nagaland organizes farmer awareness programs

Medziphema, September 23 (MExN): ICAR Nagaland Centre organized farmer awareness programmes at Ruzaphema village, Medziphema block, Dimapur district on with the theme ‘Importance of Agromet Advisory in Agriculture and Allied sectors’ under the Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa (GKMS) project on September 22.

Imtisenla Walling, Technical Officer, AMFU ICAR Nagaland Centre in a press release said that Technical Officer, AMFU Jharnapani, ICAR Nagaland Centre gave the introductory remarks and apprised the participants about the activities under the GKMS project and highlighted the role of weather based agro-advisories in farm planning and efficient mobilization of farm resources more especially in the context of changing climate scenario. She highlighted the Meghdoot app, developed by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and ICAR, which provide location, crop and livestock specific weather based agro-advisories to the farmers.

Farmers were encouraged to utilize the service of Kisan Mobile Advisory Service and Whatsapp where SMS are send biweekly (Tuesday and Friday) in nagamese on weather based for contingency planning and betterment of their livelihood. Farmers were imparted knowledge on Soil health under changing climate situation by Dr Christy B K Sangma, Scientist (Soil science), ICAR Medziphema.

The programme has also given special emphasis on maize Fall Army Worm (Spotopterafrugiperda). Lireni Kikon, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Protection). KVK Dimapur gave a lecture on the symptoms and management aspect of the Fall Army Worm pest. Queries raised by the farmers during the interaction were addressed by the experts. Altogether 35 farmers attended the programme.
