KOHIMA,  (MExN): Imkong L Imchen, Minister, School education, SCERT, Science & Technology and IT & TE today assured that the education department was striving hard to increase the pass percentage of the students, from the next academic session. Several meetings, he said, were held regarding this academically relevant matter.

Stating this at the Silver jubilee of the Pochury Students Union Kohima (PSUK) at the Ura Academy hall, he said that the department on being aware as to how the present marking system of the state was affecting students in a negative way, especially while seeking admissions outside the State, the department was striving hard to change the present marking policy of the State’s educational system, for the benefit of the students to be at par with the rest of the country.

Imkong also commented that the mindset of the Naga students of being intellectually inferior in comparison to students from other states should be done away with and every Naga student should work towards upgrading the educational system with dignity coupled with a positive outlook.

He further asserted that the society was very biased as far as tribalism was concerned. In this regard, he appealed to all Naga citizens to denounce such narrow mindsets.

“We talk about being one, being united but our present society is such that we only think of uplifting our own tribes. How beautiful it would be if such biases are removed.

We are more fragmented in our minds more than we appear to be. Change for a better tomorrow will come only with the right change of attitude,” he said.

The Pochury Students Union reached a milestone today with its 25 years of formation under the theme ‘At the Crossroads’.
The celebratory programme was marked with lots of special numbers apart from other items. Freshers’ King and Queen were also selected.

The Chief Guest also released the Jubilee souvenir. Yitachu, Parliamentary secretary Law and Justice, Fisheries graced the afternoon session of the celebration as the Guest of Honor.
