In most of the media and talk of humans we see mostly the negative side of a person. Nagas are wanting in appreciation and gratitude. This is due to lack of knowledge and advancement in civil society. Nagas are on the path of civilization. As such, due to ignorance we talk more of mistakes than god works by our leaders.
I, as an economist would like to appreciate the wise decision of the Deputy Commissioners of Kohima and Dimapur in traffic regulations for movement of vehicles on odd and even numbers. This has greatly reduced the travel time. Before they issued this notice, it took two hours to reach the new capital complex from Kohima main Town. Now after the new order it takes only half an hour. This saves lots of travel time and consequently fuel consumption. If we convert all these in monetary value there is lots of savings which can add to more income to the users of vehicles. May the good Lord bless them with more wisdom to lead our people into greater heights! I wish this system continues even after we conquer the COVID-19 pandemic.
Secondly, as an Urban and Regional Planner I see all the congestion both in Kohima and Dimapur. The problem is unplanned growth of our towns. In the theory of Urban Planning it is said that the city will develop whether plan of unplanned. This is exactly happening in Nagaland. All our Towns are developing haphazardly. I am afraid the future generation shall blame the present generation
Therefore, I request all the Deputy Commissioners in Nagaland to emulate the wisdom of the two Deputy Commissioners and take the courage to innovate good ideas to protect our Towns from congestion in conjunction with the established rules and regulations and implement as an able administrators.
I have written a thesis on “Development Potentials of Kohima Town.” The development is going exactly as I have predicted. Little regret is that it is developing without proper planning. So I request the Deputy Commissioner to think about the blessings about well planned cities and your active participation shall be highly appreciated by all the Nagas.
