Mon, March 4 (MExN): The Mon District Administration and Mithun Rural Development Foundation (MRDF) inaugurated the second of the three solar mini grids at Chenwetnyu village under Chen Sub-Division in Mon on March 3.

The 30 kW solar mini grid was inaugurated by CL John, MLA 45 Tehok A/C in the presence of Thavaseelan K lAS, Deputy Commissioner Mon, Relise Sangtam, SDO (Civil) Chen, Shalendra Katariya, COO, The Hans Foundation, Shyamal Bera, Senior Manager, MRDF among others, a press release from the DC Mon stated. 

Speaking on the occasion, MLA CL John lauded the efforts of the DC Mon and the MRDF team in delivering last mile access to clean energy in one of the remotest corners of the State. The MLA also urged the villagers to co-operate with the MRDF technical staff and work together so that the villagers will benefit from the solar light, a DIPR report added. 

The DC Mon, Thavaseelan K informed the gathering that the primary objective of installation of mini grids, besides providing 24/7 electricity for domestic consumption, is to create livelihood opportunities for the end users. He stated that the availability of reliable and quality power supply would result in growth of economic and livelihood activities thereby creating a sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem. “The initiative aims to provide reliable access to clean energy for the last mile and promoting the adoption of green/ clean energy sources, covering all 132 villages of Mon District over the next four years,” the DC Mon said. 

The third solar mini grid at Longkei village is expected to be inaugurated by the end of March 2022, it added.
