NHAK organizes Oral Cancer screening session at Kohima College

KOHIMA, APRIL 28 (MExN): In a concerted effort to promote oral health awareness, doctors from the Dental Department of Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) organized a session on oral cancer screening at Kohima College on April 26.

A total of 104 students, accompanied by 6 doctors and 1 nurse from NHAK, participated in the enlightening event. Dr Neiphrezo Sorünuo spearheaded the session with an insightful presentation on oral cancer, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the functions of the mouth and a compelling case study presentation. Notably, Dr Soriinuo highlighted that Nagaland rank 7th in the country with 43.3% tobacco consumers, according to the GAT Survey (2016-17).

Dr Keduovinuo Keditsu complemented the discussion by shedding light on the adverse effects of smokeless tobacco in her presentation, emphasizing the importance of tobacco cessation for oral health.

The session culminated in commendable initiative- free oral check-ups were offered to all attending students. This gesture not only reinforced the importance of oral hygiene but also provided essential care to the youth, the press release stated. 

The programme received widespread acclaim as it effectively promoted oral health awareness and hygiene while extending much-needed care to the students, it added.
