LSU endorses NSF’s stance on ULBs

Wokha, May 13 (MExN): The Lotha Students' Union (LSU) today fully endorsed the recent call by the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) for exclusive indigenous Naga representation in the forthcoming Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) elections in Nagaland.

According to the union, the NSF strongly advocated that “all candidates should solely be Indigenous Naga by blood, emphasizing the principle of ‘Naga by blood, not by adoption’.”  The Federation also called for the exclusion of women married to non-locals, along with their offspring, from contesting in the election, it added.

Accordingly, recognising the importance of safeguarding the interests and aspirations of the indigenous naga people, the LSU stated that it fully aligns itself with the decision taken by the NSF.

“The office believes that such measures are essential in preserving the cultural identity and integrity of our community,” conveyed a press release issued by LSU President Lirhonthung E Kithan and General Secretary Chanpenthung Ovung.

In this regard, the union instructed all constituent units to provide full cooperation and actively endorse and advance the position advocated by the NSF.  “Let us stand united in upholding the values and principles that define us as indigenous Naga people,” it added.
