SVEEP for greater participation in electoral process

Kohima, September 23 (MExN): The Kohima District Level Committee for Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) had a meeting in DC's office chamber on September 21.

As per DIPR report, the meeting was convened to discuss the planning and implementation of the various SVEEP activities in connection with the Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Roll w.r.t January 1, 2022 as the qualifying date.

Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Kohima Gregory Thejawelie NCS said that the SVEEP will work towards creating awareness to citizens for greater participation in the electoral process which is essential for a stronger democracy. He said 'to ensure and make our democratic more vibrant with more people’s participation, it is important to check and ensure that certain efforts and initiatives are taken up in this revision'.

“The committee's duty is to ensure voter's education is taken forward and made them aware of the necessity to participate and promote voter's literacy,” DC added. He also asserted that crucial time is the enrollment of eligible voters and the entries that are made in the E-roll are accurate and error free  to achieve free and fair elections.  DC further said that initiative has been taken up and the ultimate goal is to build up a stronger democracy through greater participation. He also informed that district SVEEP plan has been prepared and requested the members to contribute on how best the awareness programme and SVEEP activities will be taken forward. 

AEO Kohima, Toshimeren also briefed the members on the SVEEP activities and timeline for inclusive, enhanced and qualitative electoral participation in SSR w.r.t January 1, 2022 as the qualifying date. The members from DDK, AIR, NYK and others present in the meeting also shared their suggestion on SVEEP awareness programme to be taken up.
