The National Sports Day in India is celebrated on 29 August, on the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. This day marks the birthday of Major Dhyan Chand Singh, the hockey player who won gold medals in Olympics for India in the years 1928, 1932 and 1936.

On this National Sports Day, I would like to forward some Sportsman concern related to Nagaland State Government, Nagaland Olympic Association and respective Sports bodies and Association. I really appreciate Nagaland State Government for appointing renown sportsperson to various Government Department however in addition to that I request Nagaland State Government to conduct open recruitment for sports quota in Police (Home Department), Department of Youth Resources and Sports Affairs and Department of School Education for Physical Education trainer so that it will give equal opportunity to thousands of sportsperson in Nagaland.

There are thousands of Sportsperson and amongst them only one or two can achieve National or international fetes and I really appreciate Government for giving them dues status and appointing them on sports merit quota but in order to encourage more Sportsperson and athletes to choose sports as profession we need to have sports quota job interviews. This will motivate the Sportsperson to accomplish more and bring laurel to our state and India. Most of the Sportsperson are unemployed and without any source of income which reduces the talented youngsters to choose sports as professional.

My humble request to Nagaland Olympic Association and other sports bodies and Association in Nagaland to together organize yearly Sports Award Ceremony to cater the achievement of Sportsperson in National or International level and in local level too. This will positively make great impact to support and encourage the existing players. Doing something for Athletes after their retirement from the sports is good but while in the peak of their career they need lots of support in every aspect. And I suggest that the annual sports award will give more competitive spirit ultimately leading to producing of lots of International Sports Star from Nagaland.

Sports in Nagaland will become one of the biggest industries and this Industry is all about Youth and talent resources which is freely available in Nagaland. This sports industry alone can feed the whole Nagaland but we have to work and bring in lots of reformation and reviving. Small step today will lead to bigger platform tomorrow. Hope to see positive vibes.
