First Fruit: Chubalemba B Chang is first UPSC topper from Chang tribe

In a first, Chubalemba B Chang became the first-ever Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) topper from the Chang community securing an All India Rank of 915 in the recently declared UPSC examination results.

The Chang civil society organizations came together to celebrate this remarkable achievement during a felicitation programme organised by the Chang Khulei Setshang (CKS) at the CKS hall in Tuensang town on May 4.

Chubalemba, in his address, shared insights into his educational journey, highlighting his roots in Tuensang and his perseverance through multiple attempts at the UPSC exam before finally succeeding this year.

Reflecting on his experience during the final interview in Delhi, Chubalemba recounted an encounter with an IPS officer who was unaware of the Chang tribe, emphasizing the significance of his achievement as a trailblazer from his community.

Expressing gratitude for his success, Chubalemba acknowledged the sacrifices made by his family and affirmed his commitment to serving as a role model for future generations.

“As soon as I knew I cracked the exam, I called my father first thing,” Chubalemba shared.

N Y Choba, President of CKS, commended Chubalemba's historic achievement, stating, “A history has been made, and it will remain etched forever. Chubalemba's success is a testament to the determination and resilience of our community.”

Executive Chairman of Changsao Thangjam Setshang (CTS), speaking on behalf of the mothers, praised Chubalemba's dedication, remarking, “He should lead by example and be a role model for the young ones, carrying on the identity of the Chang wherever he goes.”

Executive Secretary of Chang Baptist Lashong Thangyen (CBLT) Rev Achu lauded Chubalemba's resilience, adding, “His achievement without formal coaching is a story to inspire many young Nagas.”

Furthermore, he said, “You are our first fruit, a sign of many Chang students’ achievement in the future.”

President of Chang Gazetted Officers’ Association (CGOA) expressed admiration for Chubalemba's determination, encouraging him to continue his journey as a mentor for aspiring UPSC candidates. He added, “Maybe he is the second person to clear UPSC exam since 1963. I am giving you an assignment, to be a guide for the youngsters to achieve more UPSC toppers from our community and let your achievement pave the way and be the start.”

Chang Dobashi Union and Chang GBs Songdak Thangjam echoed the community's pride and hailed Chubalemba's achievement as a source of inspiration for future generations.

The programme concluded with a thanksgiving prayer, led by Rev ML Chingmak, reflecting the collective joy and appreciation for Chubalemba's accomplishment.
