Cultural Celebration under the theme ‘Our Culture, Our Identity’ alongside Food Fest was held at Unity College of Teacher Education, Dimapur on May 3 at the college campus. Showcasing of different cultures' attire, cultural games, eating competition, folk dances, music and songs were the highlights of the programme. Objective of the programme was to create awareness, develop a sense of belongingness and the responsibility to preserve, promote and embrace cultural diversity.

The Department of Social Work in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), St Joseph University organised a national seminar on the theme ‘Sustainable Development Goals: A Perspective of North East India’ in the University auditorium on May 3. Dr Bijoy Das, Assistant Professor, Programme of Social Work and Associate Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Assam Down Town University, Guwahati was the resource person. He highlighted the status and performance of all the eight States of North East India in the index of the SDG Goals. He deliberated on the challenges faced by this region, and prospects of achieving the 17 Goals and suggested various approaches to achieve the Goals by 2030. The National Seminar received 23 papers from three States of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland.

The HSLC and HSSLC 2024 Toppers of Christian Higher Secondary School (CHSS), Dimapur were felicitated by the school administration on May 4. The programme conducted at the Covenant Hall, chaired by Vice Principal Patricia Zhimomi was attended by the toppers and their parents, administrative heads, teachers and the present class 10 &12 students. The Toppers include HSLC: Mhachilo Yanthan (1st Rank) and Suruchi Bharti (8th Rank); HSSLC: Tokali H Awomi (3rd Rank Arts), Maysha Pathan Khan (9th Rank Arts), Koyel Sutradhar (5th Rank Com). CHSS Principal, S Moatemsu Walling in his speech congratulated the achievers besides leaving a challenge for the present class 10 & 12 students to achieve the benchmark success. The Red Ribbon Club of Modern Institute of Teacher Education (MITE), Kohima commemorated International Firefighters’ Day on May 4 with Sedevizo Hibo, Officer In-charge, South Fire Station, Kohima as the special guest. In his speech, Sedevizo Hibo spoke about the significance of International Firefighters’ Day and the importance of fire safety. He also highlighted the firefighters’ prayer. The programme included various competitions like essay, poetry recitation, poster making and costume display. It ended with a brief demonstration on the correct usage of fire extinguishers.

The Department of Land Resources, Kiphire distributed the fingerlings and also organised training on pisciculture to project villages under PMKSY-WDC 2.0 and RKVY in Kiphire district on May 3. The training was imparted by the District Fishery Officer, Nzanthung Yanthan in the project villages. He asked the farmers to be sensitive and sincere while rearing fishes and added, ‘fish farmers has lot of potential in district like Kiphire.’ Lipichem, District Project Officer, DLR Kiphire appreciated the farmers for making use of Dug out Pond and Water harvesting structures for rearing fishes. ‘By this practice underground water is also recharged which is also one of the main objectives of PMKSY WDC 2.0,’ he added. Altogether 10 villages under PMKSY- WDC 2.0 and three villages under RKVY received fingerlings from the Department of Land Resources.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland state today undertook a massive tree plantation drive across the state. The plantation was carried out in all the 60 Mandals as per the directive of the state president Benjamin Yepthomi. The State Office Bearers, State Spokespersons and State level party officials carried out the plantation Drive, along with BJP Dimapur District President and team in various locations in Dimapur. Meanwhile, the Plantation Drive also witnessed active participation from the party Karyakartas across the Districts and Assembly Constituencies of Nagaland, according to State Media Department, BJP Nagaland.
