Expedite work for BSL-2 lab in Dimapur: WSYF

Dimapur, May 29 (MExN): The Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) today urged the state government to expedite the setting up of BSL-2 laboratory in Dimapur and more of similar facilities in other districts as well.

In a press release issued on May 29, the WSYF welcomed the government’s decision to send returnees to their respective districts only after testing but however observed that it would require returnees to be kept in Dimapur and Kohima even beyond the government prescribed 14 days mandatory institutional quarantine.

It reasoned that the daily testing capacity in Kohima’s BSL-3 lab alone is not sufficient to test all the returnees efficiently, especially since the number of returnees arriving in the state has been increasing on a daily basis and as such, stated that “The early and urgent completion of BSL-2 Lab in Dimapur would definitely contribute to discharging more persons daily thus creating space to accommodate new returnees.”

The WSYF meanwhile pointed out that that sealing of borders only in the main check gates would be rendered meaningless if larger portions of open borders in Aghunaqa, Khaghaboto, Kuhuboto and Niuland areas are left unattended and unchecked since the areas are in immediate proximity with Assam villages and towns.

It appealed the state government to “work out some mechanism to see that the inflow of unknown persons from Assam side are checked with proper security forces especially at main entry and exit points.” In other porous points, the communities in the border areas will continue to keep a check within their respective jurisdictions, the release stated, while adding that “The WSYF will continue to extend its support and cooperation towards the state government in fighting the pandemic.”
