The Lok Janshakti Party-Ram Vilas (LJP-RV) has become the second political party to announce intention to contest in the Nagaland Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections 2024, scheduled to be held on June 26. The Nationalist People’s Party was the first to sound the ULB poll bugle on May 9.
The LJP-RV’s Nagaland unit Spokesperson, Yitachu made the announcement following a meeting of the party’s State Executive on May 18 in Dimapur. “LJP has decided to participate in the ULB elections. We have candidates in the Municipal and Town Councils but the details of how many we will field cannot be said now,” Yitachu told the media.
On women reservation and the hostility it met in the past, he held that old wounds be better not reopened. He said that there is “positivity” in the air and the party would be open to field women candidates in reserved seats, if it gets contenders. He maintained that the party was yet to identify women candidates. He declined to comment on the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation deciding to boycott the ULB polls. He though said that a political party would want the people to participate.
