Inter-School speech competition highlight menace of child-labor

DIMAPUR, JUNE 12 (MExN): An Inter-School Speech Competition on child labour with the theme “For a better tomorrow” was organized by the Prodigal’s Home at Christ hall, Holy Cross premises.

Spirited and well-prepared speeches by the participants brought out interesting facts as well as  stories about the menace of child labour. 

According to one participant from Christian English School 1 out of 6 children in the world are involved in child labour and a majority of taxes one pays, is diverted towards military expenditure rather than social welfare programs. 

Other participant described how house-hold servants are also exploited and the first to be blamed when house-hold valuables are lost.

In a state with 98% Christians the menace of child labour is also rampant in Nagaland. A few actual child laborers were present.  One of them by the name of Babloo said, “I came to find work in Dimapur” and has no mother and is currently working in Dimapur. 

The First prize was bagged by Anubah S Nair from Holy Cross School, second by Sulito Chishi from DPS and third by Kahoni K Yeptho. SP Dimapur Bidhu Shekar was the chief guest and exhorted the students along with Mayang, ADC Judicial Dimapur, Imtijungshi Asst. Deputy Director Social Welfare Department Kohima and other resource persons. 

The competition was held at Christ School, Holy Cross School Premises. And the first, second and third prizes were sponsored by World Vision Dimapur, Mr & Mrs Taka Imchen fellowship colony and W C Humtsoe BYWC respectively. Rotary club sponsored the complimentary prizes for every participant while consolation prizes were sponsored by Khekavi, Mr & Mrs L Imchen and Prodigal’s Home.
