State Govt. considering separation of powers

MOKOKCHUNG, JUNE 12 (DIPR): Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, Abhishek Singh issued a circular today stating that Government of Nagaland is considering the separation of Judiciary from the Executive in Nagaland as per directives of the Supreme Court.

Concern has been expressed by many on what will be the status of the functioning of the customary courts and DB courts after the separation of the Judiciary from the Executive. Another issue that the Government is considering is in regard to trial of customary law cases in the town areas where people from various villages and tribes reside.

In this regard, Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner, Government of Nagaland has fixed a meeting in Kohima on 15th June where the opinion of the Deputy Commissioner’s has been sought. 

In view of the important issues concerned, a consultative meeting with all concerned is scheduled to be held on June 14 at 11:00 am in the Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall so that the district's opinion is finalised.

Members of the BAR Association, Mokokchung, representatives of DBs, Ao Senden, office bearers of GB’s Union, office bearers of Ward Chairmen Union and office bearers of Mokokchung Town Ao Senso Telongjem have been requested to attend the meeting and present their views.
