Innovative practices at GMS, Jakhama
The School Education Department’s latest newsletter meanwhile highlighted the innovative practices at GMS, Jakhama.

In the newsletter, Principal Director of School Education, Shanavas C said that the teachers of GMS Jakhama have demonstrated working with dedication to achieve a common goal under a dynamic leader.

“There is no place for the evil practices of proxy and absenteeism at this school and they strictly follow the school timings prescribed by the department,” Shanavas stated.

Some of the teachers even render services beyond their call of duty and act as local guardian for nearly 20 students who stay at rented houses as their parents work as labourers in the neighboring states.

The Principal Director noted that in GMS, Jakhama, the walls inside the class rooms as well as outside are painted with educational pictures. “In primary classes, you would find wonders of nature and life around them painted while in upper primary classes you would find pictures related to science, mathematics, social science etc,” he informed.

He said that this school serves as an example of how all stake holders—teachers, students, parents, community and the department have come together.

The small school ground in the school campus which was uneven has also been leveled and filled with tiles. This was done through contribution made by the Head Teacher.

Two long rows of cement corridors were constructed utilizing donations made by students and teachers. The village council also made donations for the drinking water pipeline and construction of a few class rooms.

The school has a small library, which also stores old books from students who pass out. These are utilized during delays in supply of new text books and also serve as reference books for students.

The newsletter also noted that students use the library in regular schedules. The school has a small computer lab with 5 computers.

Mid day meals are served to all students up to class VII throughout the year as per government norms.

The quarterly newsletter was released by School Education Advisor, KT Sukhalu today. Through it, the department desires to highlight important initiatives undertaken by different government schools “so that it would encourage them to strive for sustained development and will also motivate others to adopt best practices in their schools.”

Schools may send reports of innovative practices being followed along with photographs through email to director.se.nagaland@gmail.com.

At the end of the year, the best performing schools will be conferred awards/rewards by the department.
