Tejo Weaves, a boutique selling traditional and contemporary attires and items was formally inaugurated by Kohima town MLA Dr Tsielhoutuo Rhütso on May 6.

Addressing the gathering, Rhütso expressed the need to introduce and encourage use of traditional attire through its significance or importance. Taking reference of a feast of merit like occasion where a person who has been able to host a feast for the community is able to wear certain traditional attire, he said such attires based on achieved status should also be introduced. Otherwise, Rhütso said today everyone is able to afford any kind of traditional attire regardless of its price.

The MLA also said that a shop that caters to selling traditional items will encourage artisans and pave way for them to sell their products.

Speaking about the boutique, where ‘Tejo’, in Southern Angami dialect means ‘blessings’, he hoped that it will derive its meaning for those who make and buy the products.

Proprietor of the boutique, Neithono Sothu while speaking about her interest and venture into traditional and contemporary tribal attire said how her interest in this franchise had always been innate in her since childhood where she was closely associated with her grandmother by learning from her and listening to stories narrated by her.

Starting from 2014, where Sothu opened her first store in Kohima town, it has now expanded to three shops which deal in selling traditional items. The shop have a host of items ranging from traditional shawls and wrappers, to contemporary wrappers, bags and apparels for both and women, neckpiece, mufflers among others.

The store is located at Multilevel parking, Central Plaza, PR hill, Kohima.
