The Resilient Spirit of India: Embracing Unity in Diversity through Our Constitution

Liose Sangtam

In a world that is vibrantly rich with a diverse array of people and cultures, I feel compelled to share my thoughts today. My words are not merely those of Liose Sangtam, but rather, they emanate from the depths of my heart as an ardent believer in our cherished nation, India. The roots of my heritage run deep, instilling within me an immense sense of pride. Moreover, I hold our Constitution in the highest regard, recognizing the profound significance it bears in shaping our collective identity and future. Its importance, I must emphasize, is immeasurable in my eyes.

Think of our Constitution as a guidebook that shows us how our country should operate. It's not just a collection of dull rules; it's a pledge we've all taken to treat each other with fairness and equality. This Constitution offers every individual, regardless of their background, an opportunity to be themselves and achieve success in their own way. It's like a compass that points us toward a better and fairer future for all.

I hail from the breathtaking landscapes of Eastern Nagaland (upcoming Frontier Naga Territory), a region steeped in history and rich cultural heritage. My roots are intertwined with the very essence of the “Frontier Naga Territory movement”, a testament to the resilient spirit and the pursuit of constitutional justice. Our Constitution stands as a beacon, honouring the diverse cultures that paint the fabric of our nation. It boldly proclaims that every individual, irrespective of their birthplace, possesses a voice and an inherent place in the heart of India. Our true strength lies in our unity, a poignant reminder that, as a nation, we are most formidable when we come together to pursue shared aspirations and forge a common destiny.

Being an ordinary citizen of India and a Sangtam Student Leader, i feel it is important to mention that the Constitution is like a guiding light for me. It grants me the freedom to be true to myself and pursue my dreams. I can freely express my thoughts, work towards my goals, and be who I am without the fear of unfair treatment based on my background. Moreover, it serves as a reminder that I have a responsibility to assist my fellow Indians and protect our precious land.

Being an Indian encompasses much more than just having a rich history, stunning landscapes, or diverse traditions. It revolves around the principles we've laid out in our Constitution. These principles reflect the aspirations of our visionary leaders who aimed to provide every individual with an opportunity to succeed and contribute to the betterment of our nation, making it a place where dreams can flourish and thrive.

Our Constitution stands not as a mere legal document but as the pulsating heart and soul of our cherished nation, embodying the very essence of who we are. It transcends religious affiliations, be they Hindu, Muslim, Christian, or Sikh, to reflect the loftiest values of humanity—justice, equality, liberty, and fraternity. Contemplating its profound significance evokes a deep sense of reverence, recognizing that it encapsulates the collective aspirations and shared ethos of our diverse and vibrant country. In each line and clause, the Constitution becomes a living testimony to the resilience of our democracy, a commitment to fundamental rights, and an unwavering belief in the innate goodness of humanity. It narrates the story of our collective journey towards a society where justice prevails, equality flourishes, liberty is safeguarded, and fraternity binds us in a common embrace. This powerful narrative serves as a guiding light, illuminating the path toward a more harmonious, inclusive, and compassionate nation, reminding us that, despite our diverse backgrounds, we are united in the pursuit of a better future.

I am writing this article from Kiphire Town, Kiphire District- a part of upcoming “Frontier Naga Territory”. Recently I met with a road accident which kept me in my bed for long that gave me some time to gather my thoughts on my relationship with my country, this is how I am able to write this article.

In closing, I want to emphasize my deep commitment to our wonderful country, our cherished Constitution, and the essential principles it stands for. With unwavering belief, I proudly proclaim, "Jai Hind!" I hope for India to continue its growth and progress. Together, as a united nation with a shared vision, we shall march forward, guided by our collective dreams, toward a brighter and more prosperous future.

Our constitution continue to inspire me to look for opportunities to contribute to the growth of nation and fellow citizens- that i believe is the whole purpose of school, college, university education. I ask this question to myself- what as a young educated man from “Frontier Naga Territory” can do for my country?

During these uncertain times, let us step up as leaders who unite people and joyfully celebrate the unique things that make each of us special. It's essential to keep in mind that when we come together, we become a stronger force, and our beloved Constitution plays a crucial role in ensuring that everyone is treated fairly and with respect. It's a fundamental part of our shared values and principles.
