Thunderstorm ‘trips’ power supply in Dimapur

Power supply from the Dimapur Load Centre has been severely impacted by the hail and thunderstorm that lashed the city on Wednesday afternoon, April 24. According to the Department of Power Nagaland (DoPN), several power sub-stations and feeders (power distribution lines) experienced “trips” or faults disrupting supply. 
 

The affected included the 33kV Padumpukhri, Referral (CIHSR), Industrial Estate, Army, Metha, Super Market (Naga Shopping Arcade) a d Forest sub-stations. 
It informed that all outgoing feeders from the said sub-stations tripped due to the thunderstorm. 
 

Meanwhile, a few shops in the Supermarket area were damaged due to the impact of fallen tree branches on April 24.
 

The rainfall also resulted in water logging, causing considerable inconvenience to the weekly Wednesday Market vendors and customers in Supermarket. In Watford area, there were reports of damages to cars due to fallen tree branches.
 

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Niuland also informed that thunderstorm with lightning and rainfall on Wednesday evening ravaged many houses and rendered many families homeless in the district.
 

Impact of fallen trees at several locations was also reported in the district and damage to light posts has resulted in disruption in power supply in many areas, the DC added.
