Ventilation of stagnant Naga Political atmosphere with fresh air

On the first day of the present two day session of the State Assembly of Nagaland; on 3rd August 2021, Kepethau Kezholuzo Azo Nienu opened the windows of the august House for ventilation of the stagnant political atmosphere that has become polluted with extraneous airs. His Ideas are for alignment of the Road to signing the Indo-Naga Agreement; and in this, the legislator has not only opened the eyes of the Members of the House, the NNPGs, but has also ventilated the political atmosphere of many a concerned person of Nagaland.

The local news media mentioned the ideas of the legislator as “bold”: I thought they are exactly apt. His Ideas are not only fresh and bold; they are straight up like a principal Flag Post at the Olympic; an honest person everywhere is normally calm and quiet, but surprisingly bold, of good time and for the good of the majority of the people.

If the elected Leader and at least a few of the other members of the paramount House were, this bold, independent and straightforward in their political beatitude, I would think Nagaland would have been breathing much cleaner political air for quite some time ago.

Anyway, war and religion make a people united and hardy, and I would think the long history of fighting for a cause in the Naga is not something thing to be so sorry about. From war, we learn a lot about how people behave.

The British described their fight first with the turbulent Angami  Naga as:[quoted] “extending over 50 years, which have been one long sickening story of open insults and defiance, bold outrages and cold-blooded murders on the one side, and long suffering forbearance, forgiveness, concessions, and unlooked for favours on the other”.

This description of the people in the fight is quite understandable because the two had been enemies for 47 years, from 1832-1879 and one side fought for their territorial expansion, the other for preservation of their territory and their wild freedom. Finally, after nearly half a century of conflict, the former found out the ‘savages’ were not searching for territorial expansion, and said: “virtually every man does that which is right in his own eyes, and is a law unto himself, ‘a form of democracy which, it is difficult to conceive as existing for a single day, and yet that it does exist here is an undeniable fact”, remarked Captain Butler who was speared dead at Pangti while starting Survey of Naga hills.

The long fight Mr. Nelson Mandela endured, in his fight against Apartheid of the Dutch Government in South Africa, has hardened him into a hard nut to crack, and peaceful Gandhi affected India peaceful. It is triumvirate factors of the RSS, Amit Shah and Modi make Hinduism boil over the cultural cooking pot of Bharat; otherwise India is a tolerably peaceful Nation.

No Agreements, not one ever, last long for ever; yet, today is the best time to ink the Indo-Naga Agreement on their political issue, already said to be in readiness is lying without appending final signatures from both sides.

After the First World War in 1918, Germany was by Agreement prevented from making any war materials but within 21 years, it rolled its tanks over Eastern Europe and flattened the whole Europe area. After the World War II also, it was prohibited from making any offensive Armament but today its warship visits far-flung corners of the Oceans including South China Sea. The same is true of Japan, who is today forced to be prepared to go to war with China in protection of Taiwan.

The Naga desires a political house of his own, and India has said it accepts the unique history of the Naga and that it has every right to fight for it democratically with peaceful means any time afterwards in future. In the mean time, the Agreement -already arrived as a result of 23 years of arduous discussions- need only the appending of the signatures of both the Parties: India and the Naga.

The MLA has brought out a very significant road alignment map of how to go further. It is:

I. The GoI should call a Round Table Conferences of all the groups at Delhi, and settle the matter then and there.
II. Those NNPG (Naga National Political Groups) in the fray not attending the conference abrogate the cease-fire, already in force and should return to their Camps.

III. Save the Authority of the elected Government of Nagaland, and central Authority, no other Authorities can tax the people of the land.

When Gandhi and Jinnah could not agree on the politics of the Hindus and of the Muslims in India, the Government of the United Kingdom called for a Round Table Conference at London to discuss the matter.

This is the best road map to signing the seemingly interminable Indo-Naga political Issue: the two peoples would be neighbours till the world comes to an end; Nagas need never live an adversary to India. And India too has a good chance to demonstrate a great Nation of Peace and magnanimity.
