School Edu. heads lament Media gaffe

Dimapur, July 14 (MExN): Officers of the School Education department are unhappy at the detention of its director as well as a report carried by a local daily earlier that there were about 3, 000 bogus teachers in the department.  A letter received here from the officers of the School Education directorate lamented that there are sometimes damaging information in the media which undermine the quality of “appreciable things in the case of recent SIT activities in the School Education department.”

The officers took strong exception to the report of a local daily earlier about existence of ‘about 3000 bogus teachers’ appointments’ which “really has blown the matter out of proportion.” It has damaged the reputation of the department, the officers said.

While investigations are underway, the directorate said, no person should “put any hypothesis” or that it is not expected of the media to use hearsay as collected information for newspapers. “If such practices continue, the very purpose of the media’s role of right information to the society shall be defeated,” the officers reminded.

According to the officers, the department has  been extending fullest cooperation  and there is ‘no tinge of negative intention and no suspicion either that the SIT would play fault with the department.’ This has been so ever since the state cabinet gave the nod for the SIT enquiry, the officers said.

“The day the director and the additional director were called (telephonic call) to come and verify their signatures, they neither escaped nor delayed even for an hour in appearing before the SIT, but in full cooperation went to the Vigilance Commission right in time. The director was detained on the remand order obtained by SIT, which was very unexpected,” the officers said.
