WUSHU: Manipur on top and Assam in second

DIMAPUR, MARCH 20 (MExN): Manipur topped the medal tally of the Wushu competition by winning 6 gold, 2 silver and two bronze, while Assam stood second with 2 gold, 3 silver and two bronze and Nagaland in the 3rd place with 8 medals.

Nagaland team clinched eight medals which include 1 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze at the Wushu competition which concluded here on Wednesday. Yoto Chizo won the only gold in the 75 kg event for Nagaland.

Compared to the medal tally during the 2nd edition, when Nagaland won only 6 bronze, the state’s Wushu team this year saw improved performances, boosted by the advantage of a home crowd, a press release issued by Nagaland Wushu Association informed. 

The two-day wushu competition was held at Sovima Futsal ground with a total of 58 players from different state of Northeast. 

Vipu Zhimomi, Nupa Kiho and Kekhrieneitso Angami settled for silver after losing the final round. Yoto Chizo defeated Sanjenbam Rohit Meitei from Manipur state in the final match giving much cheer and celebration as both Nupa Kiho and Kekhrieneitso Angami lost against counterpart Manipur team in their finals. Akivito Yeptho, Geeta Narjinary, Kivikali Magh and Lipokjongshi Imchen had to settle for bronze.
