1-year-old among 16 new COVID-19 patients in Mizoram

Aizawl, January 9 (PTI): At least 16 more people, including a one-year-old baby and four security personnel, have tested positive for COVID-19 in Mizoram, pushing the state’s tally to 4,275, an official said on Saturday.

Of the fresh cases, 11 were reported from Aizawl, two from Lawngtlai and one each from Lunglei, Siaha and Saitual districts.

"Five minors, including a one-year-old child, two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) employees and two personnel of Border Security Force and Assam Rifles were among the new patients," the official said.

Four new patients have travel history, while 10 were diagnosed with the disease during contact tracing and it is yet to be ascertained how the remaining two contracted the infection.

Barring one, 15 were asymptomatic, the official said.

Mizoram now has 82 active cases, while 4,185 people have recovered from the disease and eight died.

The recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the state currently stands at 97.92 per cent.

The state has so far conducted 1,86,098 sample tests, including 937 on Friday.
