The 10th Walu Aten of the Khensa Kaketshir Telongjem (Khensa Students’ Union) commenced on December 28 at the Local Ground, Khensa, under the theme “Putusen Yayim” (The Way of Life in the New Era). The three-day conference will conclude on December 30.

A total of 387 delegates from seven units are attending the Walu Aten, including representatives from Amenyong, Mokokchung Town, Dimapur, Kohima, Yimyu Ward, Yimtsüng (Village) and Kongrokong.

Moatoshi Longkumer, MLA and Advisor for Labour & Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of Nagaland, graced the second-day programme as the Chief Guest.

In his address, Longkumer said that the “new era” which the youth are entering is shaped by rapid technological change, artificial intelligence, climate stress and shifting economic realities. While acknowledging the progress made by Khensa youths, particularly in academics, he stressed that education must translate into enterprise, innovation and service.

Drawing examples from global and Indian entrepreneurs, he said that success is built through persistence, learning and the courage to build despite uncertainty. At the same time, he urged the Khensa youths not to wait for opportunities but to create them, especially in areas such as agriculture, technology, eco-tourism and local enterprises.

“Entrepreneurship without ethics is destruction and innovation without discipline is chaos,” he cautioned, adding that the way of life in the new era must combine knowledge, enterprise, integrity and service.

Chairman of Khensa Village Council, I Alemmeren Longchar, in his address, stressed that language is central to identity and urged Khensa youths to actively speak their mother tongue, Khensa Mongsen. He informed that the second edition of Khensa Mongsen Yusa has been published and encouraged students to study and practise the language daily.

Highlighting youth initiatives, Longchar cited the annual Christmas Cake Race, noting that several youths who participated had gone on to qualify for the Army and were preparing for Nagaland Police recruitment. He also observed that while Khensa has produced UPSC and NPSC qualifiers, sustained competitiveness is necessary to maintain such progress in the coming years.

A key highlight of the day was the formal inauguration of the first archery event by the Chief Guest.

The day also featured the 9.70-km Walu Aten Race across nine locations in Khensa village and Yimyu Ward, involving activity-based challenges for participants from all seven units.
