12 new road projects proposed for Meghalaya

As many as 12 road projects are proposed to be sanctioned for Meghalaya under the World Bank (MITP) Phase-II, official sources said.

Of these projects, three are in East Khasi Hills district, three in West Khasi Hills district, one in South West Khasi Hills district, two in West Jaintia Hills district, one in East Garo Hills district and two in Ri Bhoi district, they said.

The road projects in East Khasi Hills include rehabilitation or resurfacing work of 13.04km roads in Shillong, construction of bridge including approaches from Evelyne Ride road to Umpling Dongsharum (length of which is around 140 meters) and improvement including MBT of a 2.91km road from Mawstep to Pyrda Kukon and Rngidiengsai including bridge.

The state government has also proposed to upgrade and improve the 35 km Nongstoin - Maweit road, improvement including metalling and blacktopping of the 21.372 km road within Nongstoin town and improvement of 13 km Kynshi Myriaw road in West Khasi Hills district. 

Strengthening of road to three export points including Borsora (6.50 km) Cherragoan (6.80 km) and Bagli (4.00 km) in South West Khasi Hills will also be taken up under the phase II.

The other proposals include construction including Main Boundary Thrust (MBT) of a bypass from 4th of Shangpung Sutnga road to Pasyih Garampani road including bridge over Umiurem River and rehabilitation of roads within Jowai town (33.973km) in West Jaintia Hills district, rehabilitation of roads in Williamnagar town road (13.287 km) in East Garo Hills district, upgradation/improvement of Umsning Jagi road (40 km) and rehabilitation of roads from Nongpoh-Umden-Sonapur (25 km) in Ri Bhoi district.
