15th Finance Commission funded water project inaugurated in Tuensang

A newly constructed drinking water supply facility at Nyakbashou Colony under Saksi 3rdNAP Ward, Tuensang, was inaugurated on Saturday by P. Bashangmongba Chang, Minister for Housing and Mechanical Engineering, Government of Nagaland. The project was implemented under the 15th Finance Commission (FC) Tied Grant for the financial year 2021–22 (1stinstalment).

The programme began with a dedicatory prayer led by Onen, Pastor of Chang Baptist Lashong Saksi, followed by the formal inauguration of the facility by the minister. A brief report on the project was presented by Shelley Katiry, Additional Deputy Commissioner and Administrator of Tuensang Town Council (TTC), who outlined the technical and community collaboration that made the project possible.

According to the report, the water supply project was completed within one and a half months through a joint initiative of the TTC and the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED). While TTC provided the funding under the 15thFC Tied Grant, PHED extended technical assistance. Local citizens from three sectors contributed manpower throughout the construction process.

The project covers three sectors – Nyakbashou A, B, and C – and benefits around 100 households. It features a 3.5-kilometre pipeline from the Laasaühbou source, a 2,000-litre capacity source dam, a 10,000-litre main reservoir, and four service reservoirs of 4,000 litres each. The system also allows for future expansion to accommodate additional beneficiaries.

In short speeches, Ward Chairman Yanchu and Project Committee Convener Tochi expressed gratitude to everyone involved. Tochi described the minister as a “man of word” for fulfilling the community’s long-pending request for a reliable water supply.

In his exhortation, Minister P. Bashangmongba Chang lauded the collective efforts of the 3rdNAP Saksi community, ward leaders, and officials, with special mention of Shelley Katiry, ADC and Administrator TTC, and Er. P. Ngamen, for their commitment to the project. He said the facility fulfilled a long-cherished dream of the people of 3rdNAP Ward and recalled his earlier efforts in helping connect the area with electricity.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, marking the successful dedication of the water supply project that promises to improve access to clean water for the residents of Nyakbashou Colony.
