Tsumang FC and Nitsuyan FC booked their places in the semi-finals of the 15th Lotha Football Championship (LFC) after contrasting quarter-final victories at the Local Ground, Wokha, on February 4.
In the first quarter-final, Tsumang FC edged past Friends Club in a penalty shootout following an keenly contested 3–3 draw at the end of regulation and extra time.
Friends Club began strongly and dominated much of the first half, taking the lead through Joel Haokip in the 23rd minute. They doubled their advantage three minutes later when Saronbemo found the net, before Renjamo Murry extended the lead in the 47th minute to put Friends Club firmly in control.
Tsumang FC mounted a spirited comeback in the second half, with Sulanthung pulling one back in the 46th minute. Ephyothung Odyuo then levelled the scores in the 70th minute before scoring again deep into stoppage time, in the 93rd minute, to force extra time.
With neither side able to find a winner in the additional period, the match was decided by penalties, where Tsumang FC prevailed after their goalkeeper saved a crucial spot kick.
The second quarter-final saw Nitsuyan FC register a comprehensive 7–1 victory over Flamingo FC.
Yiben Ezung starred with four goals, while Ayenmongba added a brace and Yhoto Lohe chipped in with one.
Flamingo FC’s lone consolation goal came through Nitova in the 77th minute. Nitsuyan FC dominated proceedings throughout to seal a comfortable passage into the semi-finals.
The remaining quarter-final fixtures will be played on February 5, with Nyiro Range FC taking on Old Changsu FC, followed by Yon Sporting Club facing Airfield Colony FC.
