The 18th edition of the Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy 2025, was formally inaugurated at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex, Mokokchung on October 21. Organised under the banner of the Mokokchung District Volleyball Association (MDVA), the four-day event promises intense competition and a celebration of sportsmanship.
The inaugural programme was graced by Sentinenla, District Education Officer, Mokokchung, as the special guest.
In his welcome address, Apongti, Convener of the Planning Committee, extended a warm welcome to all participating teams and guests. He noted that the tournament continues to stand as a symbol of sporting excellence and community spirit in Mokokchung, adding that the enthusiastic participation of teams from across Nagaland reflects their enduring passion for the game.
Addressing the gathering, special guest Sentinenla commended the MDVA for its consistent efforts in nurturing sports at the grassroots level. She encouraged the youth to invest their energy in constructive pursuits like sports, which foster discipline, unity, and leadership. Calling the Imchaba Trophy “the most prestigious sporting event honouring the legacy of Late Master Imchaba,” she lauded both organizers and players for demonstrating unity, resilience, and dedication. She urged the teams to compete with passion and integrity, embodying the true spirit of sportsmanship.
Following the formal session, the Championship Trophy was ceremonially handed over by the defending champions MH-10 Kohima, marking the official opening of the tournament.
A total of 14 teams from across Nagaland are participating in this year’s edition, which will be played in a league-cum-knockout format from October 21 to 24, 2025.
In the opening match, defending champions MH-10 Kohima faced Chienino Brothers Kiruphema ‘A’, last year’s third-place winners. The champions lived up to their reputation, dominating the game from the start and sealing a straight-sets victory with scores of 25–16, 25–18.
According to MDVA, the champions will take home a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, while the runners-up, third, and fourth-place teams will receive Rs 70,000, Rs 30,000, and Rs 20,000, respectively. Individual awards of Rs 5,000 each will also be presented to the Best Spiker, Best Setter, and Player of the Tournament.
