1st Chengu festival in Sukhai village Zbto

Zunheboto, January 8 (MExN): The first Chengu (Great Barpet) Festival at Sukhai Village Zunheboto has entered the second day on January 8, which saw students going on nature walk in the morning with Tshetsholo Naro and Angule Mayese (Professional birds and butterflies guides).

In the first session chaired by Atheli K Zhimomi, Tokaho Kinimi (IFS) Wildlife Warden, Dimapur, Raj Kumar (IFS) DFO, Zunheboto and David Angami, President, Nagaland Tourism Association (NTA) spoke at the function where they stressed on the importance of Eco tourism through conservation. Tokaho also lauded the people of Sukhai, Ghukhuyi and Kivikhu for their sacrifices and commitment.

Raj in his short speech said the he and the forest department will also help in conserving biodiversity and promote eco tourism. This was stated in a press release issued by Tavinto K Sümi, Media Cell, Tizu Valley Biodiversity and Livelihood Network (TVBLN).

David also spoke on the history of NTA and further requested the organizers and the people to help NTA reach out to people in the area and work together in promoting tourism in the district. The programme also witnessed a folk song dedicated to Chengu from Hokiye Chochou and group, thishole from Sukhai school children and cultural exchange between Sukhai, Kivikhu and Ghukhuyi Students’ Union.

In the second session, Nagaland State Biodiversity Board (NSB) Executives and Foundation for Ecology Security (FES) had a workshop with the students while Air BnB conducted workshop with home stay owners. Training and demonstration were performed by ATMA Zunheboto, LRD Zunheboto and pebble art exhibition by Iboli Zhimo. Free medical camp and animal health camp was also conducted by ATMA. The first ever Chengu Festival is being organized and hosted by Tizu Valley Biodiversity and Livelihood Network (TVBLN) in collaboration with Sukhai, Ghukhuyi and Kivikhu Students Union from January 7-9.
