1st JMF Meritorious Award for Excellence in Ao Literature held

Mokokchung, October 28 (MExN): The 1st Jemtimenba Mollier Foundation (JMF) Meritorious Award for Excellence in Ao Literature was successfully held at Aruju II, Whispering Winds hotel at Mokokchung where eight scholars were honoured with cash prizes and certificates on the occasion. 


Two students who scored the highest marks in Ao language in 2019 NBSE exam, Nokzenketer of Mount Moriah School, Ungma (Class X) and Longjana from Clark Memorial Hr. Sec. School, Impur (Class XII) were awarded with cash prize and certificates. 


The Foundation also awarded to the first position holders in the Ao Arangtet Tatidang (Ao Literature examination conducted by the Ao Senden Literature Board constituted by the Ao Senden) during the programme. In this regard, the JMF awarded cash prizes and certificates to Purtemjen Jamir, Temsujungla and Tzuwazenla for excelling in the exams. 


During the programme, the JMF also organized the first Olung Lutet (Ao language spelling bee) where only those above 30 years and above were allowed to participate. This spell bee was organized specifically with the intention to encourage and enrich the rich vocabulary among the senior citizens so that they can impart it to the younger generation. It was also conceptualized to enrich the vocabulary among the youngsters in the society. In this first Ao spell bee, Temsujungla bagged the first prize, while I. Zulu Imsong and Pangernungla bagged the second and third prizes respectively. 


During the programme, the sponsor of the Foundation, Jemti Mollier, a well known philantrophist, exhorted the gathering to love, speak, write and promote the Ao language. He further assured that he would wholeheartedly contribute towards the development of the Ao literature. 


Ao Senden General Secretary, Imtipokyim, while speaking at the programme, underscored the importance of the mother tongue. He said that Ao language is one collective treasure for the whole Ao community and therefore it should be love cherished by all. 


The Chairman of the Ao Senden Literature Board Dr L Temjen also delivered a short speech while the convenor of Jemtimenba Mollier Foundation convenor Dr Tali Imsong spoke about the whole concept about the Foundation. The students of Mayangnokcha GHSS presented a special number. Many prominent leaders from different organizations in Mokokchung town, Ao language teachers from different schools and village leaders from Ungma, Khensa, Mokokchung and Chuchuyimpang villages also attended the programme. 


The Jemtimenba Mollier Foundation (JMF) was founded in the year 2014. This Foundation has been founded specially for the promotion of the Ao literature. 


Since its foundation, the JMF had been conducting different programme like seminars, essay and quiz competitions, spell bee, symposium etc.
