23 SHGs take part in ‘Green Peren, Green Growers Meet’

Peren, November 25 (MExN): As an initiative to promote the income generation activities of Self Help Groups (SHGs) under Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP), a two-day event was organised by Divisional Management Unit (DMU), Peren, NFMP of Peren Forest Department along with C-CERP (Care Centre for Environment and Rural Poor), the FNGO partner with DMU, Peren on November 24 and 25.

As many as 23 SHGs from nine villages from Peren district showcased and sold locally grown and developed products under the theme ‘Green Peren, Green Growers Meet’ in Jalukie town. The purpose of the event was to create a common platform for the SHGs to sell and exhibit their local products which includes handicrafts, organic vegetables, fruits etc, stated a press release received here. 

The programme was organised in collaboration with Land Resource Department, Nagaland Tool-room and Training Centre and 25 Assam Riles.

The Divisional Forest Officer, Peren Dr Prabhat Kumar, IFS in his welcome address apprised the guests and the public about the NFMP project activities in Peren district and stressed upon providing a good platform on regular basis to the women SHGs and more convergence with other departments in the district.

Dr Naieem Mustafa Mansury, SP, Peren district inaugurated the day 1. He appreciated the efforts of the Team NFMP, Peren Forest Division for taking the initiative to organise the programme and motivated the SHGs members for their active participation in the event. He emphasised upon the important role of women in income generation activities as well. 

Inaugurating the day 2, Vineet Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, in his address encouraged the SHGs for coming forward for the events. He stressed upon convergence with the other departments in the future to organise such events frequently on an even bigger scale and ensured the assistance from district administration for such events.

Nagaland Forest Management Project under the Department of Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Government of Nagaland aims to conserve forests, balance ecology, preserve diversity, improve sustainable livelihood of villagers and women empowerment.

“The public participation in the event was overwhelming as most of the SHGs were able to sell their products and through this platform, the SHGs also experienced good exposure for market linkage,” the release stated.
