241 new COVID-19 cases; 13 deaths

Nagaland breaches 18,000-mark

Barely 3 days after crossing the 17000-mark on May 13, Nagaland’s cumulative COVID-19 caseload reached 18,076 with the confirmation of 241 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday. This is the shortest time taken between each 1000 COVID-19 cases in the state.

As per the health department’s Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), out of 923 samples, 241 returned positive on Sunday, indicating a test positivity rate of 32.79%.

The state also recorded 13 fatalities as of May 16, pushing the death toll to 198 from 185 on May 15, according to the IDSP’s daily bulletin. These exclude 11 other deaths that were categorized as ‘not COVID related.’

Out of the 241 new cases, 103 were reported in Kohima, 102 in Dimapur, 14 in Mokokchung,10 in Longleng, 5 in Zunheboto, 3 in Phek and 1 each in Mon, Kiphire, Tuensang and Peren. The total active caseload in the state on Sunday stood at 4,100.

On the other hand, 108 patients who previously tested positive for the virus have now recovered. There were 58 recovered cases in Dimapur, 36 in Kohima, 6 in Mon, 4 in Longleng, 3 in Phek, and 1 in Mokokchung. The total tally of recovered cases is now at 13,195.

District-wise status of cases
Dimapur district has the highest number of active cases at 2,510, followed by Kohima with 1,191 and Mokokchung with 97. Among the other districts, Mon has 79 active cases, Tuensang-59, Zunheboto-34, Longleng-32, Kiphire-31, Phek-30, Peren-19 and Wokha-18, as per the bulletin.
As per severity of cases, 3,725 are said to be asymptomatic, 174 with mild symptoms, 55 ‘moderate on oxygen,’ 112 ‘severe on oxygen,’ while 18 are in the ICU without ventilator and 16 are on ventilator.
Out of the new cases on Sunday, 125 of the new cases were detected through self test and random tests, traced contacts accounted for 104 of the new cases, armed forces/security personnel-2, returnees/travellers registered 9 cases and front line workers-1.
A total of 572 cases have migrated to other states, according to the IDSP bulletin.
