249 new COVID-19 cases push Mizoram's tally to 48,711

Aizawl, August 16 (PTI): Mizoram's COVID-19 tally rose to 48,711 as 249 more people, including 61 children, tested positive for the virus, a health department official said on Monday.

One more COVID-19 fatality in the last 24 hours pushed the toll to 182, he said.

Of the 249 fresh cases, 229 were detected through Rapid Antigen test and 20 through Fluorescent Immunoassay (FIA), the official said.

Aizawl district reported the highest number of new cases at 193 followed by Siaha (16), Lawngtlai (15), Mamit (8), Serchhip (5), and Lunglei, Champhai, Kolasib and Hnahthial districts reported 3 cases each, he said.

All the patients were found to have contracted the infection locally, he said, adding that 190 patients have developed symptoms of COVID-19.

The single-day positivity rate is 19.79 per cent as the fresh cases were detected from 1,258 samples, he said.

Mizoram now has 9,836 active COVID-19 cases, while 38,693 people have recovered from the infection, including 1,067 people on Sunday.

The COVID-19 recovery rate in the state now is 79.43 per cent and the death rate is 0.37 per cent.

The state has tested more than 7.35 lakh samples for COVID-19 so far.

Over 6.45 lakh people have been vaccinated in the state, of which 2.18 lakh people have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine till date.
