Mokokchung, July 20 (MExN): The 28 Koridang Assembly Constituency Congress Committee (ACCC) on July 20 announced that it would remain in “suspended animation” until further notice, expressing displeasure with the Congress leadership over recent organisational decisions and warning of en masse resignation if an amicable solution is not reached.
The decision was taken by the Koridang ACCC, along with party office-bearers, active members and rank and file of the constituency, according to a press release issued by its President Talimeri and General Secretary Wapangtemjen.
The committee said it had also submitted a memorandum to the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President on July 20, detailing its grievances and seeking intervention.
At the centre of the dispute is the leadership of the Mokokchung District Congress Committee (DCC). According to the ACCC, following reviews and consultations conducted under the All India Congress Committee's (AICC) Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan, Imkongyanger was appointed Mokokchung DCC President on March 30, 2026.
However, the Koridang ACCC alleged that Imkongyanger was not allowed to assume charge and that I Temsu Jamir was subsequently appointed DCC President on July 4 without assigning any reason or formally revoking the earlier appointment.
Terming the decision “arbitrary,” the committee alleged that it reflected “high-handedness, favouritism and complete disregard for dedicated long-standing party workers” and had demoralised grassroots workers.
In its memorandum, the ACCC also cited the party's performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, claiming that Congress secured a lead of 8,506 votes from the 28 Koridang constituency due to the efforts of local party workers.
The committee further expressed disappointment over the selection of T Chalukumba Ao as the Congress candidate for the 28 Koridang AC bye-election held on April 9, 2026. It claimed that repeated appeals to reconsider the candidature and field what it described as a more “capable, acceptable and winnable candidate” were ignored.
According to the memorandum, the candidate secured fewer than 145 votes in the bye-election, an outcome the committee said had vindicated concerns raised by party workers and adversely affected their morale and confidence in the State party leadership.
Daochier I Imchen of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the contest to bye-election held on April 9 and declared in May 4.
Against this backdrop, the 28 Koridang ACCC said it had decided to remain in “suspended animation” until the NPCC and the Indian National Congress addressed its grievances.
It urged the Congress leadership to take into account the views of grassroots workers and the political dynamics of Mokokchung district and the 28 Koridang constituency, particularly with an eye on the 2028 elections.
The committee further cautioned that if an amicable solution could not be reached, its members would be “left with no option but to resign en masse.”
