29th Feb Naga Reconciliation Meet

Nagas were all anxiously waiting for the much hyped 29th February Reconciliation Meeting to produce something concrete in the reconciliation of the Naga Armed Groups; thanks to the very efficient MIP of the FNR, they must have worked the whole night without sleep: the very next morning the lengthy Resolutions of the Meeting were out in the local Papers at 5 AM.

It is good to learn a big crowd, -estimated at 20 thousand, School children, College Students, Shop Keepers and Villagers were made to attend the Meeting, not the least, the functionaries of the busy Bodies of the Nagas.

Going over the Resolutions, one feels the loud thunders of the program however produced only a slight drizzle that hardly dampened off the Spring season Dusts from the dusty Roads of Nagaland.

The Minister of Urban Development & Higher Education, Nagaland has reportedly said for all of us when he very aptly stated in Kiphire the other day that the “time has come to convey the feeling of people to the under-ground Leaders” though I no longer would like to use the term “under-ground” for the Naga Armed Political Fighters.

I thought the 29th Meeting would produce some no nonsense hard Resolutions that would extract some hard Reality from the feuding Armed Groups towards Reconciliation and betterment of the whole Naga Society. I expected the Meeting would also touch the vexed problem of Armed Taxation -‘Cottage Industry’ of the Armed Groups according to India’s former Home Secretary Mr. G.K. Pillai- and the question of Disarmament in the Armed Groups in view of the absence of War between India and the Nagas and also in view of the high cost of the Defense Budget in every Camp.

I did not attend the meeting and I do not know who & who said what & what in detail, but to me the 4 Resolutions of the Meeting do not seem to have much connections with what was spoken by the few reported Speakers. This is not to downgrade the Resolution Drafting Team if there were any, or the gathering if the Resolutions were approved by it. To me the nicely worded Resolutions sounds like ‘Vevori Die” (an URA ADEMY developed Word derived from Chokri meaning ‘Goodwill Welcome’)

Some may ask this Writer whether he has attended the Meeting or not and that he should have spoken in the Meeting what are being said here. Actually, some friends enquired whether I would attend the Meeting or not. I did not feel like attending the meeting because I felt, - though I may be wrong- that the gathering is a Meeting of the ‘National Government of the Concordant Leaders’ collected under the umbrella of a ‘covering fire’ from the FNR; otherwise why would a certain Armed Group and its Town Commanders zealously, in person or in written, sought the attendance of the people for an FNR Meeting?

This Writer thinks: ‘At this rate, the destination of Journey of Naga Hope would be very far and the consumption of the much costly Petrol would be very high’.
