29th Naga Wrestling Championship 2024 in Kohima today

The stage is set for 29th Naga Wrestling Championship 2024 on March 26 at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima under the aegis of Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA).

A total of 54 wrestlers (18 wrestlers each from 3 affiliated units- Angami Sports Association, Chakhesang Wrestling Association and Zeliang Wrestling Association) will vie for the coveted championship title.


Neiphiu Rio, President Nagaland Olympic Association will be the chief host while TR Zeliang will be the host. Tenyimi legislators will be the co-host.

World Alysh Federation (WAF) President Adilet Bayaman Uulu will be the chief guest of the event while UWW World Belt Wrestling Committee President Cholpan Sultanbekova and Asian Alysh Federation and AITWPF President Omarmukhtar Tamboli will be the honoured guests.

Mamho Chakriino will be the Championship brand ambassador.

The opening ceremony will start from 9 AM onwards.

Reigning NWA champion and CWA reigning champion Venuzo Dawhuo will be the torch bearer. He will be accompanied by ASA reigning champion Kezhaseluo-o Pienyii and ZWA reigning champion Nlumrai Hegwang.

Visiito Yore, former NWA champion will light the championship torch.

The opening ceremony will be chaired by NWA General Secretary Vilekho Bio while NWA President Dr Hiabe Zeliang will deliver presidential address.

NWA Technical Secretary Mitwatei Haibwang will administer oath to the wrestlers. Hukhoneyi Soho will be the chief referee. Other referees and judges will include; Huvesii Puro, Kezhalelie Keretsii, Vekhryi Chiizho, Keneingulie Nagi, Surhoneyi Soho, Irecha Zeliang, Zehoto Kikhi and Hangcheu Zeliang.

The NWA 2024 champion will fetch a cash prize of Rs 3.20 lakh alongwith Running Trophy of Late Velahii Puro and cash award of Rs 30,000.
The second position will be awarded with a cash prize of Rs 2.20 lakh along with citation while 3rd and 4th place winners will receive Rs 1.50 lakh and Rs 1.20 lakh respectively.

Losing quarter finalists will receive Rs 25,000 each. The group champion will be awarded with Rs 30,000.

For entry ticket, donor card is priced at Rs 3000. There will be two categories for chair ticket- Rs1000 and Rs 500. Gallery ticket is priced at Rs 100.

Car parking facility will be made available at Hockey Ground on payment of parking fee.

All the participating wrestlers other than the prize winners will be acknowledged with Rs 4000 each.

Meanwhile, the NWA informed that other than the designated official cameraman, nobody shall be permitted to take photos/videos near the arena. The NWA also requested everyone to maintain cleanliness inside the Indira Gandhi Stadium.
