36th DSSU general conference begins

Dimapur, June 24 (MExN): 0The 36th general conference of the Dimapur Sumi Students’ Union (DSSU) began today. The inaugural session was graced by Ghukhuyi Zhimomi, Executive Engineer, Irrigation and Food Control as chief guest at Town Hall, Dimapur. The conference was expected to be opened by MLA Azheto Zhimomi, who didn’t make it due to ill health. He, however, sent his best wishes.
The chief guest told students that they are at the most crucial stage of their lives, where they must decide what they want. He said that they would have to sacrifice the prime years of their lives dedicated to studies to enjoy the fruits of their labour in future. He reminded them that in this competitive world there is no place for complacent and mediocre people. In order to achieve success, he urged the students to build a good character and imbibe qualities that are acceptable to society.  He also encouraged them to be fearless and determined in their ambitions and broaden their horizons. Also commenting on the need to preserve identity, the chief guest said it is good to follow trends but not at the cost of losing ones identity. He advised the students not to do anything that would dishonor the community or society.
There was a cultural competition for best traditional. A traditional fire lighting competition was also conducted in which Hikato Achumi of Salt Christian College and Zekiye Swu of City College attained first and second positions respectively. The three day conference is being held under the theme “essence of the age.” The literary session will be held tomorrow where HSLC and HSSLC toppers will be felicitated this session will elect a new team of office bearers for 2001-2012.
