The third edition of Mokokchung Inter Ward Football Tournament will be organized by Marepkong Youth Association (MYA) under the theme ‘Towards Excellence’ at Imkongmeren Sports complex, Mokokchung from May 4 to 14.
Bendangnukshi, Convenor, Organizing Committee informed in a press conference that in the third edition of the tournament, the District Sports Office will be one of the main sponsors.
With an aim to promote local talent, the tournament is exclusively open to young talents who are permanent resident of Mokokchung. The tournament promises a cash prize of Rs 50000 for the champion and Rs 30000 for the runner up with trophy and certificates. The tournament also has individual prizes which include Highest Goal Scorer, Best Defender, Best Goal Keeper, Best Midfielder and Most Promising Player.
The organizers informed that the vision of MYA is to make the tournament a self-financed tournament and to induct certified coach for each team by 2025.
They also aim to conduct a coaching training clinic in collaboration with the Nagaland Football Coaches Association so as to fulfill their vision of having certified coaches. The Association believes that this will help in maintaining the discipline of the teams and also provide employment opportunities for the trained coaches. As a way to encourage the participating teams, the Association also shares the revenue generated from ticket selling with the participating teams each year.
