The 3rd Mokokchung inter-ward football tournament organized by Marepkong Youth Association under the theme, ‘Towards Excellence’ commenced today with Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly as the guest of honour at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung.
Speaking at the inaugural, Longkumer informed that the Government under the initiative of the Chief Minister has set up sports battalions to nurture young talents and give opportunities for them to excel in the national and international level. “It should be a collective desire that there should be unity through sports,” he said while adding that the collective aspiration for socio economic development of human resource is achievable.
He also confirmed of an Astro Turf Football ground at Mokokchung district under the initiatives of Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister of Nagaland which he said would be tentatively available for usage by 14 months time and hoped for the MDFA and Inter-ward tournament to be played in the aforementioned ground in the future.
Earlier during the programme, Bendangnukshi, Convenor Organizing Committee delivered the welcome speech while an exhortation was said by Imliyanger, Chairman, Sangtemla Ward and Limatemjen Pongen, President, Marepkong Youth Association overviewed the ceremonial oath of the tournament.
In the first match of the tournament, Arkong ward beat Kumlong 4-0 while the second match ended in a draw 2-2 between Tongdentsuyong and Dilong ward.
