Kohima, October 19 (MExN): The 3rd Northeast India Youth Mission Conference 2019 under the theme ‘A wide door for effective service’ hosted by the Kandinu Baptist Church got underway from October 18, which will conclude on October 20.
The Conference is attended by around 200 delegates from different parts of Northeast India including delegates from different Churches of Nagaland, stated a press release from Media in-charge of the Conference.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Lumdemo Kikon, while the opening ceremony was done by A Jenny Christopher, National Secretary for Church Supportive Ministries, IEM. Reverend Khisenlo Apon said the invocation prayer. Praise and Worship was led by Rengma Baptist Church, Kohima.
Convenor of the Steering Committee, Niwalo Kath delivered the welcome address and a song was presented by the Mizo Choir.
Reverend Dr Mangyang Chang who delivered the keynote address thanked the host Church for the efforts poured towards the Conference. He gave a brief introduction of the IEM and testified how the founding fathers began with nothing but their trust in God.
The IEM was started in January 15, 1956 and Simon was its first Missionary who was sent to Orissa in 1965. At present, there are 960 missionaries in different parts of India and the IEM recruits around 25-30 missionaries every year. It works in partnership with various organisations both within Nagaland, India and partners from abroad.
He encouraged the youth to be involved in Mission works, while adding that around half of the world population has not yet heard the gospel and around eighty thousand die every day without knowing Jesus Christ.
He also said that there are around 4635 different groups of people in India and the gospel has reached only 639 groups so far. He lamented over the “lukewarm attitude” of the Church towards mission works, that the promise of sending ten thousand missionaries will not be accomplished only with prayer.
He challenged the youth to get involved in mission work as missionaries and not to idle away their time at home doing nothing, as lots of works were yet to be done.
The Conference will include various cultural programmes where all the delegates will get an opportunity to display their respective cultures and traditions.
