Dimapur, March 31 (MExN): The tribal Hohos of Wokha, Peren, Longleng, Kiphire and Tsemenyu sub-division reiterates its full support to total implementation of the Delimitation Act (amended) 2003 as per the 2001 population census figure. The Joint Action Committee of the Hohos of the mentioned areas rejected the ‘latest’ draft working committee prepared by the state government “which is noting but an attempt to derail the Delimitation Act 2002 (amended in 2003).”
The JAC through its convener E Konpemo Ovung in a release stated that the ‘impugned’ draft paper contains ‘nothing to delimit Assembly Constituency seats in equitable proportion based on census 2001.’ “It only speaks of population adjustments within respective district and readjustment of population and distribution of villages in Assembly Constituency segments within the respective district to suit the immediate political interest of vested few sitting legislators and state member delimitation commission. The impugned draft working paper is therefore nothing but complete deviation of the provisions of the Delimitation Act 2002 and gross violation of the Act” it stated.
“No Naga is superior or inferior to the other. All Nagas should have and should be given equal opportunity in all aspects and this can be achieved only when the people are equitably represented and therefore, it is the bounded duty of the Nagas state government, the state member Delimitation Commission and Commissioner of Nagaland and the state Associated Members to carry out the delimitation exercise in letter and in spirit for the just implementation of delimitation in Nagaland as per the Delimitation Act 2002 as amended in 2003” it stated.
A representation has also been forwarded to the commission, highlighting seats/constituencies to be added/delimited/readjusted. Wokha was shown as needing of one more to the 4 existing seats, Peren 1 to the existing 2 seats, Longleng 2 to the existing 2 seats and Kiphire 1 to the existing 2 seats.
