DIMAPUR, MARCH 6 (MExN): The Tenyimi Youth Organization Dimapur (TYOD) today asked the Dimapur Deputy Commissioner to take necessary measures to ensure that rock blasting works along the Dimapur-Kohima 4-lane does not endanger life of commuters and the public.
In a letter to the DC, the TYOD President, Thejangulie Angami and General Secretary, Khrozote Kapfo said rock blasting especially in the hill section of Chümoukedima area has become a daily activity.
It however observed that “now most of the blasting is done besides the old road of the National Highway that results in blockage of the Highway for an indefinite period of time which is another harassment face by the commuters.”
“Using of landmine and the surface cutting should be carried out from top to bottom and not from bottom to top,” the TYOD stated. It however claimed that in order to save time, the construction firms are “putting public life at risk.” It also suggested that the blasting works should be done only after 10:30pm, during which vehicular movement is restricted till 5:00am.
It further pointed to the risk posed by solid sandstone rocks left on the edge at various places without any support from the base of the ground. The TYOD appealed to the DC to inspect the work being carried out “so as to avoid any sudden manmade disaster or harassment.”
