Ukha, January 15 (MExN): The 40th Mopong Hongkong Students’ Union Sports Meet and Literary-Cultural Event concluded successfully at Ukha village on January 14 after nine days of competitions and celebrations held under the theme “Strive for Triumph, Transcend Limits.”
The inaugural programme was graced by A. Nyamnyei Konyak, MLA and State President of the NPP Nagaland, while the valedictory function was presided over by Naiba Konyak, MLA of the 55th Tobu Assembly Constituency.
The nine-day event featured a range of activities including literary competitions, Achievers’ Night, Cultural Day and an Extravaganza Night. The respective segments were graced by S. A. Engo, Senior PGT, during the literary events, T. Lukai, AEO, during the cultural events, and Kaiba Konyak, Joint Secretary of the Konyak Union, during the Extravaganza Night.
Meanwhile, the 40th Federal Assembly of the Mopong Hongkong Students’ Union was convened on January 6 and was attended by delegates from all nine federating units and area leaders. The assembly deliberated on several key issues, including an acute shortage of government-appointed teachers in schools across the area, which has resulted in heavy dependence on village-appointed proxy teachers.
The assembly also adopted a strong resolution on the conservation of local wildlife and aquatic ecosystems, discussed the growing concern over the use of intoxicants among youths, and formally welcomed the Angchen Students’ Union as a newly affiliated member unit. It was further unanimously resolved that the 41st session of the Union in 2027 will be hosted by Yakshu village.
In the sports segment, Mopong Town Students’ Union emerged champions in men’s football, while Yonghong Students’ Union clinched the men’s volleyball title. Ukha Students’ Union won the women’s volleyball championship and was also declared the overall team champion.
The 40th session was described as a milestone for the Mopong Hongkong area, reinforcing unity, showcasing cultural vibrancy and constructively addressing developmental challenges faced by the community.
