5 minors from Nagaland rescued in Bengaluru

DIMAPUR, MARCH 20 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Union Bangalore (NSUB) and the Eastern Naga Students’ Union (ENSUB) have rescued five minors from Nagaland who had fled their homes in search of employment in Bangalore.

A joint statement from the NSUB and the ENSUB informed that the five were class IX students who ran away from their homes in Nagaland without the consent of their parents and reached Bengaluru on March 7. According to the students, they decided to do so since they do not like school life.

They managed to book train tickets with “money that they had received during the election and the money that they had stolen from their parents,” the NSUB and ENSUB informed. While on their way to Bengaluru, the students lost all their money and mobile phones in the train.

They were left behind with no money, trapped in Bangalore railway station. The NSUB and ENSUB informed that they were accosted by an auto driver who recommended them for a job in a restaurant. They worked there for a day and left; after which they joined another restaurant. It was in the second restaurant that the NSUB and ENSUB reached them.

The student’s parents had contacted the office of the NSUB and ENSUB on March 13, after which the organizations stepped in, helped rescue the students and gave them shelter until their parents came to Bangalore to pick them on March 16. It was informed that all of them are now safe and have reached Nagaland.

The NSUB and ENSUB have expressed their gratitude to Rev. Zhabu Yimsung, Pastor of the Naga Christian Fellowship, Bangalore for helping the unions and offering shelter to the students.

Meanwhile, the two organizations informed that no minors will be allowed to work in Bengaluru as it is illegal and shall be sent back home.

NSUB President, Nuthipru Nienu urged Naga students “not to be fooled by a glamorous city life style as it is filled with hardship if you do not have the right skill set and qualifications.” “Your future depends on your foundation, either you stay in school and study hard to have a successful life in future or you give up now and suffer the rest of your life,” he added.

He further expressed concern at the practice of handing out money to minor students during the elections.
