50th Angami Sports Association meet from February 14 to 19

The Angami Sports Association (ASA) is all set to conduct its 50th Meet from February 14 to 19 with a total cash prize of around Rs 13 lakh.

ASA was formed in 1967 and celebrated its golden jubilee in 2017.

Informing this during a press conference here at Hotel Japfu, ASA President, Er Lhoubeizo Kesiyie said that 150 contingents each from Northern Angami Sports Association, Southern Angami Sports Association, Western Angami Youth Organization and Chakhroma Youth Organization will join the tournament.

The meet will be conducted at Tsiesema Ground, Indira Gandhi Stadium, Indoor Stadium Kohima and Khuochiezie (Kohima Local Ground).

Nagaland Youth Resources and Sports Advisor, Er Zale Neikha will grace the inaugural function on February 14 at 9:00 AM at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.

Indigenous games like bamboo stilt walk and blowing of trumpet will add colours to the inaugural function. WAYO will present folk tune.

Lighting of the tournament flame will be done by  ASA defending Men's athletic champion  Medoneituo Sekhose and women's athletic individual champion Abeino Neihu.

The programme will be chaired by ASA president while a welcome address will be delivered by ASA advisor Viliehu Nguzhii.

ASA athletics secretary Neilekho Ziitso will administer the oath to the participating teams.

Indoor games: The grand finale of the Indoor Games will take place on February 17 at Indoor Stadium, Kohima at 3:00 PM.The event will feature badminton  and table tennis. Abu Metha, Advisor to Chief Minister Nagaland, Associate vice president Athletics Federation of India and Secretary General Nagaland Olympic Association will be the patron.

Volleyball: Volleyball event will take place at Tsiesema Ground. Khrienuo Tachii, chairman Women Development Department will be the patron on February 17. Er. Theruovituo Pienyii will sponsor prize money for men's volleyball and Peter Zashiimo for the women's category.

Athletics: Athletics will take place on February 14 and 15 and will feature 100 metre race, 1500 metre race, shot put, 200 metres race,  long jump,  400 metre race, triple jump, high jump, 4x100 relay, javelin and discus throw, 5000 metre race, 3000 metre race and 4x400 relay mix. Prizes for this event is sponsored by Er. Kezhazelhou Theiinuo.

Naga wrestling: Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will grace the wrestling event on February 18 from 9: 00 AM onwards at Khuochiezie. ASA wrestling secretary Visakrol Vitsu will administer oath to 60 senior wrestlers and 40 junior wrestlers. Angami Public Organization president Razouvotuo Chatsu will share greetings while ASA president will deliver a presidential address. The event will also witness a demonstration of Phouse Kene. ASA auditor general Neisiesa Chiisi will chair the function.

Keklhrievor Kevichusa will sponsor a cash prize of Rs.2 lakh for the champion of the senior category.

Runner up will receive Rs 1.20 lakh sponsored by sons of Late R. Ketsore Mekro.3rd prize at Rs 80,000 by Thinowhekho Sechii while Rovito Niphi will sponsor 4th prize at Rs 50,000. Quarter finalists will get Rs 10, 000 each.

Er. Vimete Pusa, Medotso Vitsu and Sole-o Zumu will sponsor prizes for first, second and third at Rs. 40,000, Rs30,000 and Rs. 20,000 respectively. Quarter finalists will receive Rs 5000 each.

G-Sports will sponsor prizes for best tactics for both the senior and junior categories. Jimmy Rio and Vibeilietuo Kets will sponsor prizes for senior group champion and runner up respectively. Sports Associations of 17 Naga tribes have been invited as special invitees.

Football: The football will be conducted in League pattern. The grand finale or football will take place on February 17 at 2:00 PM at Indira Gandhi Stadium. MLA Keneizhakho Nakro will be the patron. Meanwhile, the Sepaktakraw event will be conducted on February 16.

The valedictory function will take place on February 19 at 2: 00 PM at Khuochiezie. MLA Khriehu Liezietsu will grace the function as the guest of honour. The programme will be chaired by ASA general secretary Er Seyielhouvi Nagi. Vote of thanks will be proposed by ASA joint secretary Keneilel Rote while ASA games secretary Kelhouneisa Khezhie will do lowering of ASA flag.
