ZUNHEBOTO, JANUARY 25 (MExN): The All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK) will hold its 52nd Biennial General Conference from January 28 to 30, 2026, at Satoi Town in Zunheboto district, Nagaland. The three-day conference will be hosted by the Satoi Range Students’ Union (SRSU) and will be organised on the theme “Revitalizing Traditional Values.”

According to the announcement, the introductory session on January 28 will be graced by G Kaito Aye, Minister of Roads and Bridges, Government of Nagaland, as Chief Host. The inaugural session on the morning of January 29 will feature KT Sukhalu, MLA and Advisor for Food and Civil Supplies, Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection, and Chairman of the Urban Local Bodies and Village Council Committee, Government of Nagaland, as Chief Guest. KT Sukhalu will also officially unveil the monolith commemorating the 52nd Biennial General Conference of SKK at Satoi Town.

The evening session on January 29 will include a keynote address by Kakheli Inato Jimomi, former Women Secretary, Western Sümi Baptist Churches Association, on the theme “Revitalizing Traditional Values.” Kitoho Rotokha, former President of SKK from 1997 to 1999, will exhort the gathering during the session.

On January 30, the SKK will hold a formal devotional service with Dr Hutton Sümi, Pastor of Sümi Baptist Church, as Guest Speaker. The closing ceremony will be attended by Hekani Jakhalu, MLA and Advisor for Industries and Commerce, Government of Nagaland, as Guest of Honour.

The conference programme will also feature an “Elders Talk” session on the topic “Naga Nationalism: A Way Forward,” with Y Aheto Sema as Guest Speaker.

Greetings will be delivered by Dr Vihuto Asumi, President of Sümi Hoho; Mteisuding Heraang, President of the Naga Students’ Federation; Zuchobemo Jungio, President of the Central Nagaland Students Association; and Pfhülo Sara, President of the Chakhesang Students’ Union. A 24-member youth choir from Sümi Baptist Church, Zunheboto, will serve as the official conference choir.

Musical performances during the closing extravaganza will feature the District Band Zunheboto and the Sümi Music Forum. The conference will also host indigenous cultural competitions, including Sumi folk dance, thishole, thighale, traditional fire-making, spear-kicking, and allied disciplines.

The organisers stated that around 1,500 delegates from 17 federating units and other sub-units are expected to attend the conference. All official delegates have been requested to reach the venue by 12 noon on January 28, 2026.

Providing historical context, the organisers recalled that in January 1979, under the presidency of KT Sukhalu, the SKK had hosted a significant conference at Satoi Town that fostered unity, addressed student welfare issues amid Nagaland’s socio-political challenges, and laid the foundation for the union’s continuing role in promoting education and cultural preservation among the Sumi people. The 52nd Biennial General Conference in 2026 marks the return of the SKK to Satoi Town after 47 years, with KT Sukhalu, now an MLA and Advisor to the Nagaland Government, consenting to serve as Chief Guest, symbolising continuity and legacy.
