The 52nd meet of Chizami Sports Association (CSA) kicked start on January 7 under the theme “One Team, One Dream” at Chizami under Phek district.
Kewezu G. Kenye, former Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha and advisor, NDPP graced the inaugural function.
Speaking on the occasion, Kenye emphasized on the importance of sports which have become the most popular human activity in the 21st century.
He encouraged the sports lovers to be resilient, committed and disciplined and exhibit their outmost skill and ability to the extreme end to get the best out of it.
“Games and sports is positive unlike war and thus creates a good sense of healthy competition among teams and nations which will only get better with the passage of time,” he said.
Regrettably, the government in the past has failed to recognized the importance of sports and thus the dismal infrastructure and performance all these years, however, it is now waking up to it and is doing its outmost to promote sports across the state and country, he said.
He asserted the importance of effective partnership and that communities must come together to support in various capacities.
He also encouraged the youths to give equal importance to formal education and excel in every field.
Earlier, the welcome note was delivered by Wedete Tsuhah, Vice-President, CSA.
Five young and upcoming sportspersons from Chizami were felicitated by CSA for their achievements and participation at the Nagaland Olympics, Naga Wrestling Meet, North East Olympics and Hornbill Half Marathon 2022.
On Day One, Ladelekhro Khel leads the medals tally with 8 Gold, 1 silver, and 5 bronze, followed by Pfutshe Khel with 4 gold and 3 silver, Pfutshepa came third with 3 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze, Mechutheza khel stands on the fourth position with 2 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze, followed by Kepero with 1 gold and Pulekhro with 6 silver and 5 bronze.
The meet will continue till January 14.
Wezope Kenye, secretary, youth resources & sports and parliamentary affairs, Nagaland will grace the closing ceremony as valedictory guest.
