Chumoukedima I November 17
The 59th edition of the Aqahuto Area Annual Sports Meet 2025, organised by the Aqahuto Area Sports Association (AASA), commenced on November 17 at the Kiyeto Local Ground in Chumoukedima.
The president of the Aqahuto Tokukujo Kukami Kuqhakulu (ATKK), P Dohoi Swu graced the event as the chief guest. In his address, Swu urged the participating players to partake the tournament in the true spirit of sportsmanship, stating “each of us must learn to forgive one another so that the results of the game are sweet and satisfying.”
Acknowledging that there have been instances of uneasy incidents in the past, he encouraged all the units present for the sports meet to showcase their best behavior and character during the course of the week-long meet.
Referring to a text from the bible that says ‘trust in God and not in people,’ he called upon the gathering to trust in God, stating “people cannot bring us down, attack us or close our chapter if we live our live trusting in God.”
Vice president of Sumi Games & Sports Association (SGSA) Akihito Zhimomi, in his brief address, encouraged the players to bond in good spirit of friendship, and further called upon them to promote peace and love within the Aqahuto area, stating ‘this is the time to forgive and accept one another.’
The Head GB of Kiyeto village Benjamin Sema, in his welcome address, urged the people living within Aqahuto area to build strong bonds of friendship through this sporting event, stating ‘event like this is a great time to reconcile any grudge one may hold against the other.’
He asserted that this generation was not a time of war, machete and guns but a generation of competition in education, wisdom and greatness, and he called upon the organisers to take this (AASA) platform diligently to help find and produce young talents.
The programme was marked with performances of folk song ‘Thighale’ by the Kiyeto Ghami Sumi Totimi Loka (KGSTL) and a Sumi traditional dance ‘Aphilo Kuwo’ by the cultural troupe of Zutovi village.
Kiyevi SC trash host village in opener
Opening the Sports Meet, Kiyevi Sporting Club (KSC) trashed tournament host Kiyeto Youth Club (KYC) by a commanding 4-1 victory, ensuring a smooth and strong start for the side.
The match began steadily as both sides struggled to push through the steady defenses for the early minutes of the game. However, a moment of defensive error from the KYC proved fatal as Kiboto of KSC scored a brilliant goal inside the penalty box to give Kiyevi the lead in the 14th minute.
As the game progressed, a few missed chances in the second half kept the host’s spirit high till it was cut short when Nizuto of KSC found the net after a crucial header in the 38th minute, keeping the score at 2-0.
When the game looked slow amidst the heat of the day, the spectators at the local ground were in for a special treat in the 60th minutes as Jessi of KSC scored a stunning “out-of –this-world” screamer from the centre circle, sending the ball fly past the net with power leaving the keeper with no chance, taking the lead even further to 3-0.
Not much longer after the screamer, the host suffered yet another heartbreak when the front man of KSC Nizuto scored a match-deciding goal inside the penalty box following a superb cross from the right winger.
Meanwhile, the host team resilience finally paid off in the 65th minute when their sub, Aghato, scored a lone goal for KYC after a quick one-two pass between the strikers inside the penalty box, leaving the defenders stunned.
The goal however proved a little too late for the home team as the final whistle blew shortly after a few minute of their only goal.
The second match of the day between Shokhuvi SC and Pimla SC ended in a draw as neither team found success in scoring the winning goal despite an intense game of brilliance, physical contest and missed chances.
In the final match of the day, Zutovi SC edged passed Ghowoto SC by a lone (1-0) goal to take the win. Hekheto of Zutovi SC scored a lone winning goal in the 11th minute of the game.
The sporting events in the 59th edition of the Aqahuto Area Annual Sports Meet 2025 include Men’s Football, Volleyball (Men and Women) and Badminton Doubles (Men and Women).
